I recently read Being Mortal by Atul Gawande, a confronting and raw book on how to negotiate and manage the time we have left when given a tragic diagnosis. In a world that has been buried under a culture that celebrates youth, we leave behind the wisdom, dignity, and beauty of aging. I believe we can all benefit from a shift in perspective.

It's an opportunity to reevaluate the relationship we have with ourselves and our loved ones. The most we can ask for is growth; even with the betrayals of the body and mind, we can still seek moments of clarity and understanding—of purpose. There is deep power in knowing when a chapter is at its end. To surrender to what is, to turn inward, and to become deeply attuned to what matters most to us. As we move towards the loss of our mind, we can shift into simple peace, the basics of happiness, contentment, and true presence.

Dementia is a cruel mistress. Watching it bulldoze its way through thousands of families, including my own, I see increasing isolation, countless unknowns, and a lack of accessible, relevant resources for those in need.

While new medications, studies, and statistics are important, they don't answer the question, 'How will we get through this?' My goal for this platform is to create a supportive community, cut through the jargon, and provide what’s truly helpful for managing daily life and easing the painful transitions that come with the loss of identity.
