WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE

At It's Not Wednesday, we offer online therapy for people navigating identity shifts. This can happen through career changes, relationship shifts, caregiving roles, burnout, or simply reaching a point where what once made sense no longer does.

You may have spent years working toward a version of life you thought you wanted, only to find yourself questioning it. Therapy offers space to step back, reflect, and begin to understand who you are outside of expectations, roles, and timelines.

THE REALITY OF AN EVOLVING IDENTITY

Identity shifts and changes in life

Identity shifts can feel subtle at first, then all at once. You might notice a growing sense of disconnection from your work, your relationships, or even from yourself. The path that once felt clear may now feel uncertain, or no longer aligned with who you are becoming.

Often, this happens after years of moving forward with focus and responsibility - meeting expectations, building a career, following a path that made sense at the time. There may not be a clear reason things feel different now. Just a growing awareness that the pace, priorities, or direction no longer reflect who you are and what you need.

Many people begin asking these questions earlier than they expected. Waking up to a sense that they've been moving on autopilot. You might find yourself wondering, how did I get here? And more importantly, is this actually what I want?

Identity work is about pausing long enough to answer those questions honestly. So you can begin building a life that feels like your own.

How Therapy Can Support Identity & Life Transitions

Life transitions come in many forms. A career change, the end of a relationship, a move, a new role, a loss, or simply the quiet realization that the life you built no longer fits the person you're becoming. Sometimes there's no clear event at all. Just a growing sense of feeling lost, disconnected, or unsure of who you are now.

Identity work isn't about finding a quick answer. It's about creating space to understand yourself more honestly - what has shaped you, what still fits, and what no longer does.

Therapy offers a place to slow down the pressure to "figure it out" and instead begin to listen to what feels true, even if it's unclear or still forming.

WHAT WE’LL WORK ON

ACT

MAKING SPACE FOR DIFFICULT EMOTIONS

Identity shifts often come with uncertainty, doubt, and internal pressure to have clarity. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps you stay grounded while making room for not knowing so you can move forward without needing everything to be resolved first.

IFS

UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF YOU

You may notice different parts of you responding in different ways.

A part that keeps pushing to stay on track, meet expectations, don't fall behind. A part that feels exhausted or disconnected, telling you to slow down. And a questioning part, less concerned with performance and more focused on truth. Asking whether this life actually reflects who you are.

Recognizing that something is shifting internally is the first step. Identity isn't something you simply inherit or arrive at. It's a process you come to understand over time. Parts-based therapy (IFS) helps you relate to these parts with clarity and compassion, so you can move forward with less inner conflict and a stronger sense of who you are becoming.

EXISTENTIAL THERAPY

FINDING MEANING THROUGH CHANGE

Transitions often bring deeper questions about purpose, direction, and what kind of life you actually want to be living. That can feel like pressure - thoughts that time is slipping, or that you should have clarity by now. But that urgency often pulls you further away from yourself.

Existential therapy creates space to step out of the pressure and return to what is actually here. Who you are right now. What matters to you now. Not based on who you were, or who you thought you'd be, but on what feels true in this moment.

Feelings of disconnection are often a signal that you're ready for change. Therapy helps you listen to that signal more closely.

A SPACE TO COME BACK TO YOURSELF

You don't have to have it all figured out to begin. Therapy offers a space to step out of the expectations, the timelines, and the pressure and start understanding yourself in a way that feels more honest, grounded, and your own.
